DIGITAL IMPLANT PLANNING
Using the latest technology, we can plan the placement of your implants before any treatment begins.
Our in-house x-ray generates a digital 3D model of your teeth and jawline, using a minimal dose, allowing us to accurately diagnose your unique clinical requirements.
The 3D scan also helps us avoid hidden anatomy such as other tooth roots and main nerves.
As a result many patients are able to have implants placed in a single appointment, with more precision, improved aesthetics and quicker recovery times.
WHAT ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS?
Dental implants are a permanent, clinically proven solution for missing teeth and consist of 3 parts;
A surgical grade titanium screw – which is placed in your jawbone to act as an artificial tooth root
A white porcelain crown – this is the replacement tooth which is the visible part of the restoration
An abutment – the component that connects the titanium screw to the replacement tooth
When a tooth is lost, the jawbone starts to resorb due to lack of stimulation. This can also lead to premature aging.
Placing an implant in this area allows you to chew your food evenly on each side and preventing resorption of bone (i.e. bone loss).
Implants can replace a single missing tooth, multiple adjacent teeth, or all teeth within the mouth.
Dental implants are also used as an alternative treatment option for uncomfortable, loose or unsightly dentures.
Dr Karen Gangotra will need to take a low-dose x-ray or CT scan to see the health and volume of your jawbone to evaluate if dental implants are the right choice for you.

The Process
The dental implants process is where a strong post made of titanium is fitted into your jawbone, allowing a replacement porcelain/resin tooth to be added. An implant is essentially a substitute for a natural root and commonly screw or cylinder-shaped. In cases where several teeth need to be replaced, a dental implant bridge can be used to treat all missing teeth at once.
TYPES OF DENTAL IMPLANTS
Single Implant
Single implants replace a missing tooth in the front or back of the mouth. The full implant restoration will prevent movement of adjacent teeth maintaining your smile.
Implant Bridge
Implant bridges can restore multiple missing teeth at once. A traditional bridge will grind down the two healthy teeth either side of the gap. Dental implant bridges are not supported by natural teeth so avoid cutting down healthy tooth structure.
Teeth in a Day (All-on-4 / All-on-6)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT DENTAL IMPLANTS
A – To be a suitable candidate for dental implants, enough bone structure needs to be present. To check this, an x-ray/low dose CT scan is carried out to determine the volume and health of your bone.
Any person who has lost part or a whole tooth, fractured a tooth or has an existing space in their mouth is a good candidate for a dental implant. The evaluation for eligibility will take place after your first consultation for dental implants.
- Excessive smoking as it deters healing,
- High alcohol consumption that affects the gums,
- Bisphosphonate medication
- Advanced gum and bone tissue deterioration from periodontal disease
- Patients with auto-immune disease that also affects healing-rate and fusion of the implant to the bone.
- Excessive teeth grinding is also a condition that can stall implant treatment.
A – When looked after well, dental implants substructure can last for up to 10-15 years. To keep them in good condition, it’s advised that you regularly visit the dentist and hygienist.
What will my mouth feel like after surgery?
Slight discomfort and slight swelling is to be expected in the days following your dental implant surgery. Minor bleeding may also occur. This is easily treated with painkillers and/or antibiotics. It is very likely that you will need to eat soft foods until the site fully heals.
A – Making sure you brush twice daily with the correct brushing technique, use a fluoride containing toothpaste and chlorhexidine mouthwash, and floss at least once a week helps to prevent tartar and plaque build-up. Chewing sugar-free gum after meals also contributes to good oral hygiene. Avoiding any damage to the implant site is crucial, after surgery, so gentle brushing and eating of soft foods initially is recommended. Visiting our dental hygienist for regular check-ups will also help to maintain both your natural and implant teeth.
A – The cost of dental implants in Surrey varies from patient to patient as it depends on a number of factors.
Factors include:
- patients risk factors and specific needs
- Choice of analgesia -sedation/non sedation
- Materials used
- Further treatment for example, the need of bone grafting to build up the bone of the jaw to prepare for implantation, but this won’t be necessary for all patients.
To reduce costs, some patients choose to research alternative options or book their treatments overseas, but this can pose problems in terms of after-care. Dental insurance is also an option to investigate when advised on implants.
At your initial consultation after X-ray or CT Scan, Dr Gangotra will advise you on the treatments required and all the costs involved and payment options available.
